Artist Statement:
My body of work is a critical engagement with the disconnect between the current day and a cultural past, exploring the intersection between Indian culture and religion, gender, and diasporic identity.  In some ways we can feel connected to our identity, in others, there are conflicts or parts of ourselves we don’t fully understand. In the past couple of years, I’ve been interested in the idea of alienation. Initially, it was an investigation into the separation between myself and my culture, but it weaves into isolation due to disability, feelings about gender, or even the pandemic. Because I work with non-western references and personal experiences, my art can situate my audience in an unfamiliar setting. In this way, I expect my works to alienate the viewer, to experience the emotions captured in the work itself.
